Woolgar Hunter is a leading engineering design studio, headquartered in Glasgow and with a thriving team in the centre of Manchester. We are looking for experienced senior structural technicians to join our teams in our Glasgow and Manchester offices. The ideal candidate will have a desire to develop innovative BIM models in harmony with our structural engineering team and progress sustainable design solutions that improve the way the users of the built environment move, work, live and play. Communication is key for us, as the candidate will need to liaise closely with our structural and civil engineering colleagues, as well as wider Design Team disciplines and laypeople.
Objectives of this Role
- Undertake accurate REVIT modelling of a wide variety of existing and new buildings across a broad range of sectors.
- Developing efficient workflows between the BIM and analytical software used with the engineers.
- Prepare modelling documentation and drawings associated with RIBA stage reports, planning applications, and necessary approvals.
- Provide specialist support to in-house structural and civil engineering colleagues.
Routine Responsibilities
- Undertake high level modelling studies to develop structural engineering options with the engineering team and provide early advice with regards co-ordination with other disciplines.
- Prepare suitable renders to aid with conveying concepts and RIBA Stage reports.
- Create a reliable and co-ordinated BIM model in accordance with the company BIM policy.
- Provide ongoing advice to structural and civil engineering colleagues/clients/wider design team, in relation to the developing designs and details.
- Produce material quantities and volumes to RIBA Stage reports and Costing Notes
- Support and develop new methods of working and modelling with regards parametric modelling, in house BIM standards, and digital standards.
- Actively engage in our in-house development forums, for subjects such as environmental sustainability and BIM strategies.
- Reinforced concrete detailing and scheduling.
- Manage relevant project documentation—including, but not limited to, document control systems, model compliance, internal reviews.
Skills & Qualifications
- HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or similar.
- Working towards or already achieved chartership of chosen professional institution
- Relevant prior professional experience as a REVIT technician within a building structures environment.
- Proven experience with complex building modelling.
- Strong analytical skills and compliance with quality systems and BIM standards.
- Capable and confident communication skills (verbal, sketched, and written)
- Working knowledge of current compliance legislation—with an eye on future legal changes
