Sector:
Woolgar Hunter have been engaged by Parabola as Civil, Structural and Geo-Environmental Engineers on the development of this 174 hectare site on the western edge of Edinburgh. The upper floor will be retained as the board room for the main development and retains a private balcony giving pristine views across the development.
Part of the proposal is to design and construct a unique marketing suite inspired by a bespoke piece of sculpture commissioned from the artist David Mach. The marketing suite is intended to act not only as the marketing suite for the development but also a mixed use facility which will allow for small concerts, poetry reading, comedic sets, and community gatherings for up to 100 people within the central double height space.
Engineering Excellence
The complex and challenging geometry of this building required a change in the design approach with various prototypes being 30 printed and modelled within a virtual reality environment. Advanced modal buckling analysis of modern shipping containers and discussions with specialist contractors and main contractors resulted in a building that still captures the original artists aspirations whilst remaining affordable and practical to build.
