Woolgar Hunter worked with West Ranga Management and Muir Construction on this project to build a 72,000 sq ft warehouse and accompanying yard in Bellshill. The steel portal framed structure is on pad foundations and a reinforced concrete floor slab. The lightweight roof is supported on steel purlins and the external envelope of composite cladding is supported by a steel side rail system.
The development was designed with sustainability as a main driver, and has obtained impressive credentials, including EPC A and BREEAM ‘Very Good’ classifications. The site has large numbers of EV charging points, roof mounted solar panels and a system of heat pumps, allowing the warehouse to be heated without fossil fuels.
Engineering Excellence
The project presented significant challenges in the ground and an enabling works contract was completed before construction. This approach allowed construction stage risks to be minimised by addressing pre-commencement panning conditions, removing redundant foundations, forming permanent drainage connections and platforming the site ready for the main site works.
