Woolgar Hunter provided Civil and Structural Engineering services on this exciting regeneration project, Rockvilla, on behalf of the National Theatre of Scotland. Located alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow, the building comprises of office and rehearsal spaces.

Engineering Excellence
The project involved the removal of the fabric of the existing building to the primary structural frame of the old industrial warehouse building occupying the site affectionately known as ‘the big blue shed’. This provided the starting point to allow for a complete recladding and reworking of the large open space including the creation of a new mezzanine floor. The existing ground floor slab was also removed and a new raft foundation constructed including the enhancement of the existing foundations to accommodate the increased loadings from the new mezzanine floor and heavy rigging loading in the rehearsal rooms.
The architectural ambition was to create a strong industrial feel to the building with an exposed structural frame and concrete floor slab. The building has been designed to act as the creative engine room for the National Theatre of Scotland providing a flexible working environment for their staff and the users of the building.
