Woolgar Hunter provided civil and structural engineering services on the development of a new 13 storey office building to house JP Morgan’s technology centre. Designed to house 2,700 staff across 270,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, the design was centred around employee wellbeing and working conditions and navigated considerable constraints from its city-centre location.

Following demolition of existing buildings, the single basement was extended to accommodate plant rooms and parking and a steel frame superstructure was adopted. The frame, combined with an 18m span floorplate, provide highly flexible workspaces, maximising the use of the space on the site while ensuring the project’s commerciality. The city centre site abuts a Network Rail tunnel, and significant vibration modelling was undertaken to develop an isolation strategy. AVM springs were utilised to distribute force in the foundation and at the base of columns to isolate them. The building is one of a number of new office spaces Woolgar Hunter has engineered in Glasgow’s financial district.
