Engineering Excellence

The site comprised Scottish Leather’s existing industrial, research and office facilities, an adjacent carpark and substantial plot of land. The new development involved construction of a two-storey building with a large span steel portal frae and a heavy-duty industrial floor slab. This contained a new cutting facility, administrative rooms and a large reception with an entrance for guests. The existing carpark was demolished and balanced cut and fill ground modifications were made to prepare the ground for construction, while a new carpark was built adjacent, and a treatment works at the rear of the site was established to treat bioproducts from the leatherwork before they enter the sewer.

The site is Bridge of Weir Leather’s main industrial site and remained operational throughout construction. Our engineers and the rest of the design team were keenly aware of health and safety considerations while working in a live environment.
