Irvine Primary Schools

Woolgar Hunter was the Civil and Structural Engineering consultant for this project, which Involved the provision or extension of primary school facilities on 3 separate sites.

The largest element of the project was the £13m newbuild Irvine East Primary School. This large two storey school was constructed on a very constrained site within the grounds of the existing Broomlands Primary School, which remained operational throughout. This required careful coordination of design and construction requirements to ensure the project was executed safely. The rear of the site fell away steeply to parkland, requiring a suspended, cantilevered playground to be designed extending over the slope. Surface water was discharged to the parkland in a SuDS design that effectively removed flow from the sewer network.

In addition, extensions were formed at Castlepark Primary to provide new classrooms and a new nursery, as part of an overall refurbishment of the existing school.

Finally, a new extension was constructed to the eastern gable of Woodlands Primary School, to accommodate a new nursery.
