Larkhall Masterplan and Infrastructure
The scheme involved a new spine road, watercourse diversion and relocation of services to serve future development areas. Woolgar Hunter were initially appointed on this project to undertake a strategic pre¬planning assessment for the proposed development, and were subsequently appointed to carry out the design of roads and infrastructure for both the on-site and off-site works.

Larkhall Masterplan and Infrastructure
This project involved the masterplanning and civil engineering infrastructure design in relation to a mixed-use development for MUSE Developments at Larkhall, including a new ASDA superstore.
Topography was a significant constraint at the site, which is located in a valley. Our geo-environmental and infrastructure teams worked closely to advise an optimum earthworks strategy using 3D modelling and geotechnical appraisal. Shallow mining was identified as a constraint affecting part of the distributary road and remedial measures were specified for this aspect. Early consultation with the relevant regulators was essential; in this case, SEPA, Scottish Water and the Local Authorities were of prime importance, given that a burn required to be diverted and culverted, requiring a Controlled Activities Regulation (CAR) Licence.
On site works comprised providing an engineering platform, utilising lime modification techniques, to accommodate a retail store. Access was provided via a new distributary road, to adoptable standard, terminating in a roundabout which will subsequently serve the further residential / commercial phases of the development. To accommodate a development of this size, it was necessary to upgrade the roads infrastructure generally in Larkhall and to this end upgrading of several road junctions was carried out with a major reconstruction of the existing junction which provided access to the site.
